Most people generally know of only a half a dozen or so hunting dogs that are the most popular choice of hunters and they are unaware of the wide variety of different breeds that are specifically bred for hunting throughout the world.
Various different countries have their own preference for hunting dogs and many of these hunting dogs are chosen based on the type of hunting where they will be needed the most.
Some hunting dogs will only be required to retrieve game that has been shot by the hunter whereas other hunting dogs will be required to help track down and contain the animal that the hunter is chasing.
Three of the main types of hunting dogs are gun dogs, hounds and terriers and these are the most popular types of dogs used by hunters and the ones that most people associate with hunting dogs.
