Newfoundland dogs are often referred to as gentle giants and they make particularly good pets for people who have small children because Newfoundland dogs are very protective of children.

Newfoundland dogs have some unusual characteristics and the main one being that they have webbed feet. This makes Newfoundland dogs particularly good swimmers and this is only enhanced further by the fact that they have a water resistant coat.

Newfoundland dogs are very passive and even as puppies they are not as excitable as most other breeds of dogs. Many people get Newfoundland dogs due to these characteristics as they like to have a dog but prefer a quieter and calmer animal.

Due to their size Newfoundland dogs are difficult to maintain on smaller properties however the fact that they are not very active helps somewhat.

Newfoundland dogs are very family orientated and can suffer from separation anxiety so they are happiest living in families where members of the family at present throughout the day.
